April 28th, 2008 L.W. Miller and Brian Loftin share the Winner's Circle with Mother Nature so far in 2008. - by Charli

Sophia, NC - With
the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour’s 2008 schedule nearly
half complete, there have only been two winners in six races.
Defending
NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion L.W. Miller and Brian
Loftin have both won races, while rain has kept the teams from
getting races in at Southern National Raceway Park, Greenville-Pickens
Speedway and the latest victim to fall to mother nature’s wrath,
Caraway Speedway.
Miller held off a fierce challenge from NASCAR
Whelen Modified Tour driver Ted Christopher to win the season opening
event for the second year in a row at Caraway Speedway in March, but
rains cancelled the tour’s next two events at Southern National Raceway Park, and Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
The March 29th
race at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, North Carolina has
been re-scheduled for September 13th, 2008 while the April 5th event at
Greenville-Pickens will not be re-scheduled this year.
That left
the teams to prepare for a double-header weekend at Ace Speedway and
Caraway Speedway on Friday and Saturday nights, April 11th and 12th.
Friday
night at Ace, L.W. Miller survived a first lap incident with pole
sitter Andy Seuss to win the DMC Auto Exchange 150 followed by Ronnie
Silk, Burt Myers, Jason Myers and Jay Foley.
But the following night at Caraway Speedway, he was never a factor.
Lexington,
North Carolina’s Brian Loftin had showed late season speed to win
the final two events in 2007 at Caraway Speedway and tonight would be
no different.
Hampstead, New Hampshire’s Andy Seuss and
the Riggs Racing team worked through the night to prepare a backup car
after losing their primary car the night before at Ace. Seuss re-drew
the outside pole and dominated most of the event after fighting off
pole sitter John Smith in the race’s early stages.
But a
late race caution gave a hard charging Brian Loftin the opportunity he
needed to challenge Seuss for the win and passed him with just three
laps to go. Seuss would come home second, followed by Frank Fleming,
George Brunnhoelzl, III and Burt Myers.
The teams returned to
Caraway Speedway the following Saturday night, April 19th and after getting
practice in, the rains slowly crept their way into the speedway,
sending everybody home early for another Saturday night.
With
Loftin and Miller the only two winners this year so far, fans can
expect to see some hard nosed, wheel to wheel action when the tour
returns to Caraway Speedway Friday night, July the 4th.
L.W.
Miller currently leads the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour point
standings over Ronnie Silk, Brian Loftin, Frank Fleming and Jason Myers.
Rain
checks from the cancelled April 19th event will be honored on July the
4th. For more information, contact the Caraway Speedway at: www.carawayspeedway.com
